St. Francis Shrine
"In this world of war and turmoil, here stands a shrine to a man of peace." Fr. Andre Schludecker, ofm
The Shrine of St. Francis was originally built behind the St. Agnes Catholic Church (now Our Lady of the Lake). It was a dream of Father Andre Schludecker. The Shrine was moved to St. Agnes Cemetery in 1999. At the cemetery, the shrine is now used not only for individual meditation by those visiting the cemetery, but is often used for funerals and committal services.
St. Agnes Cemetery was established in 1884 when 10 acres of land was purchased from the City of Ashland for $1.00. An additional 10 acres was purchased from the Gingles family in 1918 and in the late 1960's more land was purchased from the McDougal family.
